Original vs. Duplicate Display: The Real Differences You Must Know
The Display Quality Spectrum
When your phone screen breaks, you're faced with a critical choice. The repair shop offers you "original" for ₹6,000 or "good quality" for ₹2,500. What's the real difference? This guide explains everything.
Grade A: OEM Original Parts
What it is: The exact same display assembly that your phone manufacturer uses, often sourced from the same factory (Samsung SDC for Samsung phones, LG Display for many Apple displays historically).
Pros: Identical color accuracy, brightness, touch response. Maintains all software features (True Tone on iPhone, etc.). Longest lifespan.
Cons: Most expensive. For iPhones, these require Apple's proprietary pairing process to enable all features.
Best for: iPhone 12+ where True Tone matters; flagship Samsungs where AMOLED quality is paramount.
Grade B: OEM-Compatible / Premium Aftermarket
What it is: Displays manufactured by third-party suppliers (often the same factories on different production lines) to OEM specifications. Brands like Tianma, BOE make excellent panels.
Pros: 85-95% of original quality at 40-60% less cost. Full touch response. Good color accuracy. Available for virtually every model.
Cons: May lack some software-locked features (True Tone on newer iPhones). Slightly reduced brightness on OLED variants.
Best for: Most Android phones, older iPhones, budget-conscious repairs where quality matters but not every premium feature.
Grade C: "Copy" / Duplicate Displays
What it is: Cheap replicas with inferior LCD or low-grade AMOLED panels. Often has visibly different color temperature, lower brightness, and poor touch sensitivity.
Pros: Cheapest option.
Cons: Significantly worse display quality. Shorter lifespan (often fails within 3-6 months). Poor touch response. High risk of backlight bleeding. Zero warranty in practice.
Best for: Temporary use before buying a new phone. We don't recommend this for normal repairs.
